New Delhi: This week is set to be pivotal for India-Singapore relations, marking a deepening of ties between the two nations. Taking a significant step towards strengthening economic cooperation, Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman departed for Singapore on Wednesday. Nirmala Sitharaman will participate in the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, an event considered crucial for the economy.
The Ministry of Finance shared this information via the social media platform X. The event is scheduled to take place in Singapore on August 20, 2026. It will be led by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, and will be attended by several other senior ministers.

Indian Government Representatives to Participate
The fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable is scheduled for Thursday and holds great significance for India. Indian representatives have already begun arriving for the conference. The Indian delegation includes Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics, Jitin Prasada.
These Indian ministers will meet with Singapore’s Finance Minister Lawrence Wong. Additionally, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister will host the Indian ministers for lunch. This meeting is expected to inject new energy into India-Singapore relations and further strengthen trade ties between the two nations. It is also being viewed as a significant strategic engagement for both countries.
Objective of the Meeting
The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable serves as a high-level economic forum between the two nations. Launched in 2022, the forum aims to review economic cooperation, strengthen the partnership, and explore new action plans.
Furthermore, the platform provides an opportunity for both countries to assess progress made across various sectors and deliberate on measures to deepen their economic partnership.

Key Issues Up for Discussion
According to the Union Ministry of Finance, the fourth conference will review the progress made so far in six key sectors: advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, health and pharmaceuticals, skill development, and sustainable development. Additionally, there will be detailed discussions on emerging opportunities to elevate economic cooperation between the two nations to new heights. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar has already arrived.
The External Affairs Minister reached Singapore on Tuesday. Welcoming him, Simon Wong, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, stated that the Minister’s arrival for the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable signifies the strong ties between the two countries. Such meetings between the two countries have taken place in the past as well, during which agreements were reached on several action plans.
