New Delhi: Rising sugar prices in the Indian market have disrupted household budgets, leaving tea enthusiasts disappointed. While people are still consuming tea, it is now costing them more. The price hike has sparked an uproar across the country, with everyone criticising the government. Amid this, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged people to remain patient.
He assured everyone not to worry, stating that arrangements are being made to address the situation. His statement suggests that some relief from rising sugar prices could be expected in the coming days. Shivraj Singh Chouhan had arrived in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, for a one-day visit. During his trip, he inaugurated the Sandipani School building, distributed laptops to meritorious students, and attended a review meeting regarding regional development projects.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended a marathon meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee at the Raisen Collectorate. As he rose from his seat to leave, journalists questioned him about the potential lack of sweets during the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival due to the rising sugar prices.
Smiling in his characteristic affable and reassuring manner, the Union Minister said, “Don’t worry, arrangements are being made.” He moved on after delivering this calm response, but his message about the market’s sweetness and the general public’s concerns has now become a topic of discussion.
Coaching classes for competitive exams to begin
On Monday, Shivraj Singh Chouhan gave a gift to students preparing for competitive exams in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh by announcing the launch of ‘Mama Coaching Classes’. He stated that the initiative aims to provide quality coaching to students within their own district, eliminating the need for them to rely on expensive private coaching institutes. He emphasised that the government is actively working towards ensuring a bright future for students and is making continuous efforts to that end.
Constantly rising sugar prices
It is worth noting that sugar prices in India have been steadily increasing over the past few weeks. Sugar prices have soared to levels few could have imagined. According to reports, retail prices in some states are reaching as high as ₹70 per kilogram.
Wholesale prices are ranging between ₹55 and ₹60 per kilogram. Overall, sugar prices have risen by up to 40 per cent. Sweets are also set to be significantly more expensive this Raksha Bandhan, placing an increased financial burden on sisters.
