IMD Alert

New Delhi: Monsoon rains continue across various parts of India, causing the situation to deteriorate. The northeastern states are witnessing heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, leading to a steady drop in temperatures. Heavy downpours in several areas of North India have resulted in waterlogging in various places.

Conditions remain grim due to the rain, triggering landslides in mountainous regions and blocking several routes. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning persists across various parts of South India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several states across the country. Here are the details regarding the expected weather conditions.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings for States

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab, as well as in isolated areas of Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha. The monsoon is expected to be fully active in these regions over the next 24 hours, potentially triggering spells of heavy rain.

Low-Pressure System Forming in the Bay of Bengal

The IMD expects the monsoon to remain active across various regions of the country. Heavy rainfall is predicted for several states in Central and Eastern India due to a weather system over North-East Madhya Pradesh and a developing low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts within the next 24 hours, raising the likelihood of monsoon rains in the coming days.

Heavy Rain in Delhi-NCR

Rainfall is predicted for several parts of Delhi. Apart from Delhi, heavy rain is also expected in parts of Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. The IMD has forecast rainfall at multiple locations across the capital and its surrounding areas. Following the recent rainfall, light mist has been observed this morning, and rain is forecast for Delhi and surrounding areas today.

Rain Forecast for UP

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in several districts of UP. The cities of Prayagraj and Varanasi are likely to be the most affected; notably, the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat had to be conducted from a rooftop. Rain-induced conditions resembling a flood have developed across 13 districts in the state.

The administration has issued an alert advising people against venturing near riverbanks. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Agra. Additionally, heavy rain is expected in Aligarh, Mathura, Ballia, Banda, Meerut, and Noida.
