Trump hints at resuming trade talks
In an assurance that the talks would result in a favorable outcome for both nations, US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that his government will continue to negotiate with India to remove trade barriers.
Trump made these comments a few days after calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “wonderful prime minister” and promising to “always be friends,” despite ongoing concerns about his plan to put a 50% tax on India.

PM Modi acknowledges the alliance and expresses gratitude for Trump’s words.
In reaction to the tweet, Prime Minister Modi stated on Tuesday that India and the US are natural allies and close friends. He said he is confident that the continuing trade talks would enable the US-India alliance reach its full potential.
He added that he is looking forward to talking with Donald Trump and that his teams are working to wrap up these negotiations as soon as possible. PM Modi stated that both nations will cooperate to guarantee their citizens a better and more affluent future.
Earlier, Modi praised Trump’s comment about being a wonderful buddy.
Earlier, Modi underlined India’s “positive and forward-looking comprehensive global strategic cooperation” with the United States and said he “truly appreciates” Trump’s thoughts in response to the great friend statement.
Trump, who has previously criticized US-India ties as a “completely one-sided relationship” and asserted that America has “lost” Russia and India to China, has softened his tone with these recent comments.

Additionally, he claimed that although India offered to eliminate tariffs, the action was “too late.” Tensions between the two countries are currently strained, as seen by Trump’s remarks on India’s purchase of Russian energy and his social media statements.
As Trump voiced his worries about the PM losing India and Russia to China, the conversation became more tense.
‘It appears like we have lost India and Russia to China,’ tweeted US President Donald Trump on Truth Social on September 5, adding, ‘I hope their future will be good.’
Trump made a more accommodative statement hours later during a White House news conference, declaring that he would “always remain Modi’s friend” and calling the Indian Prime Minister a “wonderful leader.”

Trump’s statement that he was “always eager to restore ties with India” but was disappointed by India’s continuous purchase of Russian oil, which he cited as the rationale for enacting 50% tariffs, intensified the confrontation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied on X the next morning, saying that he “totally endorses” and “sincerely appreciates” Trump’s thoughts. India and the United States have a “positive, visionary, and global diplomatic alliance,” Modi emphasized.
