New Delhi: Due to rising petrol and diesel prices, there is a growing interest among people in purchasing CNG and electric vehicles. The government, too, is encouraging a shift away from petrol and diesel vehicles to help preserve the environment. Notably, annual sales of CNG vehicles have been showing a consistent upward trend.

This festive season, there is significant enthusiasm among buyers for CNG variants. If you are considering purchasing a CNG car, now is the time we have an excellent opportunity to share with you. In the month of September alone, 23.11% of all vehicles sold were CNG variants. Furthermore, within the passenger vehicle segment, CNG has emerged as the second most popular fuel option, trailing only petrol.

The Surge in CNG Variants

Compared to September of last year—when 83,357 vehicles were sold—there has been a year-on-year growth of 26.5%. Maruti Suzuki currently dominates this segment, leading the market in CNG vehicle sales. Hyundai has also emerged as a rapidly growing player in this space, while Tata Motors remains the second-largest seller of CNG cars.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has become the best-selling CNG vehicle, partly due to its 7-seater configuration. Other top-selling models include the Dzire, Punch, Hyundai Aura, and various other Maruti Suzuki offerings.

Leading the list of top-selling CNG cars is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. According to a report by Auto Punditz, 12,481 units of the Ertiga (CNG variant) were sold, while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire secured the second position. The Dzire recorded 12,026 unit sales in its CNG variant. Compared to September of last year, sales of the Dzire have seen a 4 per cent decline.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is the third best-selling car, with 8,596 units sold in its CNG avatar during September. Meanwhile, the Tata Punch saw 8,473 units sold in its CNG version. In fifth place is the Hyundai Aura, with 7,278 CNG units sold.
