New Delhi: If you are planning to get a driving license, this news will be useful for you. The central government is introducing major changes to the rules governing driving licenses and has completed all necessary preparations. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed a draft to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. Under these proposed changes, driving licences issued to Indian citizens and foreign nationals may have different colours.
According to the government, using distinct colours will make it easier to identify the licence holder’s status, which will also assist officials during document verification. The government also proposes including additional information such as nationality on the licence and enhancing online services.

Different colours for Indian and foreign nationals
The central government’s proposed system introduces significant changes to the driving licence. It has been indicated that the licence will specify the holder’s nationality, with the possibility of assigning different colours for Indian citizens and foreign nationals.
According to some reports, the proposal suggests using saffron for Indian citizens and blue for foreign nationals; however, it is important to note that this remains a proposal at this stage. Such a change would allow officials to easily determine the holder’s citizenship by looking at the license.
New information to be included on the license
The government is also planning to include more information on the driving license, such as nationality, blood group, mobile number, and emergency contact details. This information could prove vital in emergencies, making it easier to reach the relevant person if necessary. Furthermore, changes are proposed regarding the documentation required for a license; the list of documents accepted as proof of age, address, and identity may be updated.

It is worth noting that the government’s plans extend beyond just changing the physical appearance of the licence card. There is also a proposal to increase the qualifying score required to pass tutorials or assessments related to safe driving. The passing threshold could be raised from the current percentage to 7per centnt. This would ensure that individuals obtaining a license have a better understanding of road safety and traffic rules.
