Tesla launches first electric SUV in India
The Model Y electric SUV was delivered for the first time to India by Elon Musk’s electric vehicle firm, Tesla. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik accepted the Model Y’s first delivery from Tesla’s new store in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex on Friday, September 5.
On this occasion, Pratap Sarnaik stated that his goal is to raise public awareness of electric automobiles, particularly among young people. “I want kids to see these automobiles at a young age and realize how important sustainable transportation is,” he stated. I’m going to give my grandson this car.
Electric vehicle promotion is essential.
According to Sarnaik, promoting electric vehicles and setting a good example are more crucial. To encourage electric vehicles, the Maharashtra government has implemented a number of initiatives, including removing the toll from the Atal Setu and Samruddhi Expressways. In addition, the state transportation agency has acquired roughly 5,000 electric buses.
With barely 600 orders, Tesla is starting slowly in India.
Although there was a lot of excitement surrounding Tesla’s debut in India, things have started off slowly. Since reservations opened in July, barely 600 orders have been received, according to a Bloomberg article. Considering how many cars Tesla delivers every few hours on a worldwide basis, this number is quite insignificant.
This year, Tesla intends to ship 350–500 cars to India. The first shipment of these cars arrived in early September and will be arriving from Shanghai. Deliveries will currently only be made to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram.
On July 15, the Model Y was introduced in India.
The first Tesla showroom opened its doors in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex on July 15. The Model Y was introduced in India on the same day.
