Tensions Flare Again Between the US And Iran, Trump’s Forces Launch Major Attack On Qeshm Island

America-Iran War

New Delhi: The behind-the-scenes peace talks between the United States and Iran appear to have failed once again. The possibility of finding a peaceful path between the two nations seems increasingly slim. The U.S. has launched an attack on Iran’s Qeshm Island. In recent days, the U.S. had been carrying out minor, low-intensity strikes against Iran.

Now, the U.S. has launched a major attack on Qeshm Island. Following the U.S. midterm elections, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been pushing Donald Trump to take a harder stance against Iran. During the midterm election period, Donald Trump had also indicated that he was keeping the option of military action against Iran on the table.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials stated that these small-scale attacks were intentionally kept covert to avoid signalling a broader resumption of U.S. military operations. Iran’s state news agency, IRNA, reported that several explosions were observed on Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz.

Donald Trump had claimed that war could be averted.

The U.S. launched this attack just after President Donald Trump stated on Monday that a major war with Iran could be avoided. He suggested that this prospect had contributed to a sharp decline in oil prices.

Previously, Trump had posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, claiming that oil prices had dropped by approximately $10 per barrel, a decline he described as record-breaking. Donald Trump also remarked that Iran is eager to reach an agreement with the United States as soon as possible.

The Vice President had expressed hope for an agreement.

Just hours before the attack on Iran, U.S. Vice President JD Vance had expressed optimism on Monday regarding the potential for an agreement between Iran and the United States. Last week, JD Vance had also sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, a senior Iranian security official. When asked about the letter, he merely stated that there had been several productive discussions with Iran. He further mentioned that he had spoken with President Trump about this matter just about an hour earlier.

Vance had expressed hope for an agreement. With the midterm elections approaching in the United States, Trump was refraining from launching an attack on Iran. However, Israel was pressuring the U.S. to carry out an attack. Meanwhile, the prospect of a conflict between the U.S. and Iran has also impacted global markets. There seems to be very little prospect of any peace proposal emerging between the two countries.
