New Delhi: Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following a renewed conflict between the US and Iran, causing the situation to deteriorate further. The US military is taking stringent measures to counter the Iranian blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the US military has rerouted 86 ships to ensure compliance with regulations.
Additionally, three ships were neutralised, while two others were boarded and inspected. In response to US actions, Houthi rebels backed by Iran fired 10 ballistic missiles. According to the Yemeni government forces, these missiles were launched from areas in western Yemen, targeting the city of Mocha in Taiz province and the Al-Khokha district in Hodeidah province.
Iran-linked missile strikes
Incensed by the US actions, the Iran-backed forces launched most of their missiles toward Mocha. The city of Mocha has witnessed a series of drone attacks by Houthi rebels in recent weeks.
Government forces countered the attack and forced the Houthi fighters to retreat. US operations in the Strait of Hormuz are also ongoing; according to CENTCOM, the US Navy is actively monitoring the movement of commercial vessels.
The neutralisation of two ships and the boarding and inspection of two others have been cited as part of these operations. Tensions appear to be rising across the region amidst the fresh missile and ground attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen and the US enforcement actions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump Considers Renaming the Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump is currently furious with Iran. Trump posted asking whether the Strait of Hormuz, now under US control,l should be renamed the “Trump Strait.” He further wrote on social media that, much like America, this strait would also become “hotter” than ever before. A day earlier, describing the current situation, Trump stated that the US has almost total control over the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran’s economy is “completely collapsing.
No Path to Peace in Sight
It is worth noting that the intense conflict between the US and Iran shows no signs of abating, keeping tensions high. Many lives have already been lost in this conflict. Despite numerous efforts, no path to peace has been found between the two nations, and the situation remains dire.
