New Delhi: The SIT is rapidly investigating the theft of offerings at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, and significant revelations are expected. All eyes are now fixed on the SIT’s final report. The resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were also accepted during a meeting of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Serious questions are being raised regarding the Trust’s responsibilities concerning the theft of offerings.
Meanwhile, Swami Govinddev Giri, the Treasurer of the Ram Mandir Trust, issued a statement distancing himself from the matter. He clarified that while he bears responsibility for the funds deposited into or spent from the treasury, the actual counting and monitoring of funds, specifically those not deposited directly into the Trust’s bank accounts, was the responsibility of the local trust management. Swami Govinddev Giri made these remarks while speaking after the Trust meeting; he also expressed concern over the theft incident.

Govinddev Giri makes a significant statement.
Speaking to the media, Govinddev Giri Maharaj made important points. Responding to questions from seers and saints regarding his role, he stated that he had no involvement in the counting process; therefore, he could not be held responsible, nor was there any reason for him to resign. He noted that the SIT is investigating the matter, and the situation will be assessed based on the findings of the final report.
Addressing media reports about his personal assets, he stated that he does not own even a single brick; he holds only one bank account. He also came to the direct defence of the trustees in this matter, noting that the very individuals whom the trustees had trusted and supported for so long were the ones who betrayed them.
Champat Rai, Anil, and Gopalare are no longer part of the Trust.
The Ram Mandir Trust Treasurer clarified that, following their resignations, Champat Rai and Dr Anil Mishra are no longer members of the Trust. Under the Trust’s constitution, the resignation becomes effective immediately upon submission; consequently, they no longer have any association with the Trust. Additionally, the name of Gopal Rao has been removed from the list of special invitee members. He will also be unable to oversee the temple’s administrative affairs.

Contract with SBI likely to end
The next meeting of the Ram Mandir Trust is scheduled for July 22, 2026. During this meeting, new names will be considered to fill vacant positions. Deliberations will also take place regarding the appointment of a CEO and other administrative reforms.
In this context, Giri stated that the contract with the State Bank of India (SBI) would also be reviewed. No decision regarding this will be taken by him unilaterally; any decisions made will be based on a consensus. Furthermore, investigations by the SIT and the police have established that the SBI failed to fulfil its obligations.
