New Delhi: Tensions are running high between the central government and the opposition over the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition is also accusing the Delhi Police of mistreating students. Amidst this, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, held a press conference with the protesting students, levelling serious allegations against the government and the Delhi Police.
During the press conference, students who had been detained during the protest made allegations against the police. They claimed that after being detained, they were packed into buses, taken to the police station, and beaten. Some students alleged that they were also threatened by police personnel. Rahul Gandhi listened to the students in detail and asked them to share any videos or other evidence they possessed.
Student levels allegations against Delhi Police
A female student, who was the first to speak at the press conference alongside Rahul Gandhi, levelled serious allegations against the Delhi Police. She stated that the police had acted brutally towards her. According to the student, police personnel demanded that she say “Delhi Police is my father.” During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi asked the student if she had been afraid; she replied that while she was scared initially, she was no longer afraid. Another student recounted that after being detained during the protest, they were put on a bus and taken to the Connaught Place police station.
According to the student, Chanchal Yadav was also present there. Adira alleged that she was taken to the station’s basement, where seven or eight people assaulted her. She claimed that she was struck with batons from both her left and right sides.

Adira alleged that there were no CCTV cameras installed at the spot where she was beaten. She stated that three to four police personnel were present and repeatedly assaulted her. According to the female student, she was kicked in the lower abdomen. She told the police personnel that she had done nothing wrong, yet the beating continued. Adira also alleged that the police personnel were laughing while beating her.
Ramit alleges beating with batons.
Ramit, a protester who appeared at a press conference alongside Rahul Gandhi, stated that he is a content creator. On October 11, the police detained him after listening to individuals associated with the RSS and BJP. He further mentioned that some of these individuals were carrying batons, and the police detained the protesters based on their version of events. He alleged that the police personnel beat him severely and snatched away his phone.
Dharmendra alleges police intimidation.
Meanwhile, another protesting student, Dharmendra, has also alleged assault during his detention. He stated that he was subjected to kicks, punches, and slaps. According to Dharmendra, a police officer told him that no matter how many political leaders came to his aid, no one would be able to save him. He also alleged that the police accused him of protesting in exchange for money. Dharmendra said that while he felt afraid at the time, he is not going to back down now.
