A leader of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was murdered in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. According to the police, the rivals of the BNP leader attacked and beat him to death in front of his wife. At the time of the attack, the BNP leader was harvesting mustard in a field with his wife. The incident took place on Friday afternoon, as reported by The Daily Star Bangladesh. The victim was Mohammad Babul Miah, the former vice president of the BNP Kulla Union Unit. He was targeted by his political opponents, who brutally killed him.

His wife, Yasmin Begum, said there had been a long-standing dispute among villagers over the Akshirnagar Housing real estate project. Also, She claimed that although her husband was not involved in the dispute, local criminals Afsar, Arshad, and Monir had been threatening them for days. She further alleged, “They beat him with sticks and SS pipes, severely injuring him. They also gouged out his eyes.” The brutal attack has shocked the local community. Authorities are investigating the case, and BNP leaders have demanded justice. The murder has raised concerns about rising political and land-related violence in the region. Police are currently searching for the suspects involved.
BNP Leader Declared Dead at Hospital, Wife Claims Attackers Tried to Stop Help
Yasmin Begum, wife of murdered BNP leader Babul Miah, described the terrifying moments after the attack. She said that when Babul lost consciousness, he was rushed to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Local residents tried to save Babul, but the attackers—Afsar, Arshad, and Monir—did not leave until he was completely unconscious. When Yasmin attempted to take her husband to the hospital, the attackers tried to stop her, she alleged.
Dhamrai police station in-charge Monirul Islam confirmed that the murder was linked to a previous dispute. After being declared dead at the hospital, Babul’s body was sent to the morgue for further procedures. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects, and efforts are ongoing to bring them to justice. The brutal killing has sparked outrage, with calls for stricter action against political and land-related violence.
