New Delhi: Monsoon rains have wreaked havoc across large parts of India. The situation is such that several areas in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are grappling with floods. River water levels remain consistently high, and drains and ponds are overflowing. Despite this, the monsoon has not yet receded; the next 20 hours are expected to be critical, with spells of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning likely to occur.
Heavy rainfall is expected in both the northeastern states and southern India, with little hope for immediate respite. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for torrential rain across 25 states. Details regarding the weather forecast for specific regions are provided below.
Torrential Rain Alert for 25 States
The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warnings for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, torrential rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Maharashtra. The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
Likelihood of Heavy Rain and Storms in Delhi
The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warnings for Jafarpur, Mungeshpur, Najafgarh, New Delhi Railway Station, Ayanagar, Delhi University, and Lodhi Road. The IMD has also forecast heavy rain for Narela, Palam, Ridge, Safdarjung, Pitampura, Pragati Maidan, and Pusa. Alerts have been issued for rainfall in the vicinity of Qutub Minar and Rajghat, with wind speeds likely to reach 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. In the capital, Delhi, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26 degrees Celsius.
Heavy Rain Expected in UP
According to the Meteorological Department, a heavy rain alert has been issued for Agra, Aligarh, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Baghpat, Bahraich, Ballia, and Banda. Alerts have also been issued for Barabanki, Bareilly, Bhadohi, Bijnor, Najibabad, Bulandshahr, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Etawah, Fatehpur, Fursatganj, and Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is likely in Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur, Hardoi, Jhansi, Kanpur, Kanpur Barra, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Lucknow. The Meteorological Department has also issued rain alerts for Mainpuri, Mathura, Meerut, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Noida, Prayagraj, and Shahjahanpur.
The IMD predicts torrential rain in Varanasi and Sultanpur, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of up to 70 km/h. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature is forecast to be 32°C and the minimum 27°C tomorrow, September 11, 2026.
Weather in Bihar
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in Ara, Araria, Aurangabad, Banka, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Bihar Sharif, Bodh Gaya, and Buxar. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Chhapra, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Forbesganj, Gaya, Hajipur, Jamui, Katihar, Khagaria, and Madhubani.
According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely in Mohania, Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Nawada, Patna, Purnia, Rajgir, and Samastipur. Warnings for rain accompanied by storms have been issued for Saraiya, Sasaram, Sheikhpura, Singheshwar, Sitamarhi, and Supaul.
