New Delhi: The monsoon rains have brought the pace of life to a standstill these days, causing significant distress to people. Heavy rains in the northeastern states have led to landslides, and reports of mountain slopes giving way have emerged from several areas. Meanwhile, heavy late-night rainfall across parts of South India has caused temperatures to drop, providing residents with relief from the scorching heat.
In contrast, most parts of North India are once again waiting for rain. Although the monsoon has arrived, the rainfall is expected to be light, causing crops to once again require water. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for 22 states across the country, with forecasts indicating potential thunderstorms and lightning.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings for These States
According to the IMD, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Goa, Jharkhand, and Sikkim. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely in Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD has also issued alerts for heavy rain in West Bengal, Odisha, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat, and central Maharashtra, as well as alerts for rainfall in Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh.
Where Widespread Rainfall Will Occur
In its forecast, the IMD announced an alert for heavy rainfall across Eastern and Northeastern India over the next seven days, driven by the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the northern Odisha-West Bengal coast. Widespread rainfall activity is expected to increase in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Western Himalayan region, with warnings issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several locations.
Rainfall Alert for UP
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Eastern Uttar Pradesh between July 17 and July 21, with alerts for heavy rain in multiple areas. Meanwhile, light rainfall is expected in Western Uttar Pradesh from July 16 to July 18. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are forecast for several areas between July 19 and 21.

Heavy Rain in Uttarakhand
The IMD has issued an alert for torrential rain at several locations in Uttarakhand from July 16 to 21. Heavy rainfall is likely in some areas on July 20 and 21. People have been advised to exercise caution while travelling on mountain roads.
What will the weather be like in Delhi?Drizzle
Drizzle was observed in several parts of Delhi, making the weather pleasant. However, this relief was short-lived, and intense heat has returned. The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Thursday. Several areas in Delhi are likely to experience extreme heat and humidity. The state is expected to see partly cloudy skies today, with temperatures likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius.
