New Delhi: The arrival of the monsoon in Delhi-NCR led to widespread waterlogging. Conditions deteriorated to the point where roads turned into rivers as drains failed to discharge the water. Vehicle speeds slowed to a crawl, causing hours-long delays for commuters.
Thursday brought monsoon-related chaos to Delhi-NCR, though the drop in temperature provided relief from the scorching heat. While office-goers experienced some respite today, residents of Delhi-NCR may not be out of the woods yet; further spells of rain are expected in the coming hours, likely worsening the situation again.

Areas in Delhi Submerged by Rain
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Delhi. The IMD has issued an alert for light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes. According to the IMD, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 29.2°C and a minimum of 24.3°C. Humidity levels ranged from a maximum of 100% to a minimum of 84%. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 105.4 mm of rainfall between 8:30 AM on Wednesday and 5:30 PM on Thursday.
Rain Brings Relief from Heat for Delhi Residents
According to the Meteorological Department, maximum and minimum temperatures dropped by 7 to 8 degrees over the last 24 hours. A report indicates that the maximum temperature at Safdarjung was 29.2°C, which was 7.4 degrees below normal, marking a 24-hour drop of 1.6 degrees. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature stood at 24.3°C, recording 3.6 degrees below normal.
Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 29.6°C and a minimum of 22.6°C. The maximum temperature was 7.8 degrees below normal, and the minimum was 5.6 degrees below normal. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature at Lodhi Road was recorded at 28.0°C and the minimum at 24.2°C; a drop of 2.2°C in the maximum and 1°C in the minimum temperature was observed there.
Yellow Alert for Rain Issued
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across various areas of Delhi-NCR. According to the IMD, the forecast indicates cloudy skies with the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in some locations.
On Friday, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum is likely to be between 22°C and 24°C. Light to moderate rain may occur in several places. Warnings for heavy rainfall have also been issued for Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida, with the Meteorological Department issuing a ‘Yellow Alert’ for rain.

When will temperatures rise?
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature on July 11 is expected to range between 35°C and 37°C, while the minimum is likely to be between 24°C and 26°C. Light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are anticipated either before or after midday. Furthermore, on July 12, temperatures are expected to range from 36°C to 38°C (maximum) and 25°C to 27°C (minimum); the day will remain cloudy. Additionally, partly cloudy skies are expected on July 13 and 14.
