Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the S 450e, the first plug-in hybrid version of its flagship S-Class sedan in the country. The launch marks a significant step for the brand in India’s luxury car segment. Designed for buyers who want both premium comfort and improved efficiency, the new S 450e combines the luxury and technology that the S-Class is known for with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mercedes-Benz says the model features more than 2,700 new components, making it the most advanced S-Class ever. The luxury limousine aims to deliver a refined driving experience while supporting a more sustainable approach to mobility.

Mercedes-Benz India Accepting the Bookings

Mercedes-Benz India has started accepting bookings for the new S 450e, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid S-Class sedan in the country. Deliveries of the luxury limousine are set to begin in October 2026, coinciding with the festive season. The S 450e is available in two versions, with the Launch Edition priced at Rs 2.20 crore (ex-showroom). Buyers looking for a more exclusive offering can opt for the MANUFAKTUR Edition, which carries a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 2.38 crore. The new hybrid luxury sedan is expected to appeal to customers seeking premium comfort, advanced technology, and improved efficiency.

Features and Hybrid Technology

The Mercedes-Benz S 450e brings together strong performance and advanced hybrid technology in a luxury package. It is powered by a 3.0-litre M256 Evo inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 120 kW electric motor. Combined, the system delivers 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque, making the hybrid sedan more powerful than the standard S 450 4MATIC. The S 450e also features a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which offers an electric-only range of up to 115 km on the WLTP cycle. Despite its size and performance, Mercedes-Benz claims an impressive fuel efficiency of 32.33 kmpl, making it one of the most efficient luxury sedans on sale in India today.

Design

Mercedes-Benz has also updated the S-Class with a range of design and technology enhancements. One of the standout changes is the larger illuminated front grille, which is now 20 percent bigger than before, giving the luxury sedan an even stronger road presence. The new twin-star Digital Light headlamps add a distinctive look and can illuminate the road up to 600 metres ahead. Inside, the cabin gets the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) along with the MBUX Superscreen, offering a more modern and connected user experience. An AI-powered ‘Hey Mercedes’ virtual assistant further enhances convenience by enabling natural voice interactions and easier access to vehicle functions.
