The Indian electric two-wheeler market is evolving rapidly, and Ather Energy has once again positioned itself at the forefront with its latest offering – the Ather Rizta. Launched as a family-oriented electric scooter, the Rizta breaks away from Ather’s earlier sportier designs and focuses on practicality, comfort, and everyday usability.
Family First Approach
Unlike Ather’s previous models like the 450X, which were known for their sporty feel and aggressive styling, the Rizta has been designed with families in mind. It features a wider seat, spacious footboard, and a more upright seating posture. These elements make it ideal for city commuting, school runs, and short errands, all while ensuring a comfortable ride for both the rider and the pillion.
Performance That Matches Expectations
The Ather Rizta is not about high-speed thrills. Instead, it focuses on reliable performance and smooth power delivery. It comes with a 2.9 kWh or optional 3.7 kWh battery pack, offering a real-world range of around 125 km on a full charge (in the larger variant). With its top speed of about 80 km/h, it easily meets the needs of daily urban travel.
Ather’s proprietary software ensures the powertrain operates efficiently across different riding modes, and regenerative braking helps extend battery life while offering better control.
Safety and Tech Integration
Ather hasn’t compromised on technology either. The Rizta includes features such as a large TFT touchscreen display, smartphone connectivity, navigation support, and over-the-air updates. Riders can track their battery status, monitor ride analytics, and receive alerts directly through the Ather app.
Safety is also a priority. The Rizta features combined braking system (CBS), wider tyres for better grip, and LED lighting for improved visibility. Ather has also introduced “SkidControl” a traction control feature that improves rider confidence on slippery roads, a feature not commonly seen in this segment.
Practicality Meets Design
What makes the Rizta stand out is how well it blends practicality with smart design. The scooter offers one of the largest under-seat storage spaces in the electric category, enough to store a full-face helmet and more. There’s also a dedicated front storage compartment and optional accessories like a rear carrier, side footrests, and phone holder.
Its styling is simple yet elegant. Available in multiple dual-tone and monotone colors, the Rizta has a friendly appearance that appeals to a wider audience, including older riders and first-time EV buyers.
Affordable and Efficient
The Ather Rizta is competitively priced, starting around ₹1.10 lakh (ex-showroom, after subsidies), making it a strong contender against both electric and petrol-powered scooters in the same bracket. With lower running costs, minimal maintenance, and the convenience of home charging, it presents a compelling case for Indian families shifting towards electric mobility.
