New Delhi: Just as a path toward reconciliation between the US and Iran seemed to be opening up, it appeared that things might be settling down. However, US President Donald Trump’s stance toward Iran has not softened. He was displeased by the massive crowds that gathered for the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Khamenei.

Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that the US could eliminate the remaining leaders attending Khamenei’s funeral in a single strike if it chose to do so. His statement came while Iranians were participating in the funeral proceedings for their top leader, Ali Khamenei. Trump has previously issued threatening messages regarding Iran; a few days earlier, he had mentioned that the US had allowed a week for the funeral to take place without launching an attack.

Massive Turnout

A week-long mourning period has been observed for Iran’s Supreme Leader, drawing a host of prominent figures. Top Iranian officials and political leaders, as well as representatives from other nations, are in attendance.

It is worth noting that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who held power in Iran for 37 years,s was killed on February 28 in an operation involving the US and Israel. He had been living in hiding among military forces since the conflict began, but the US and Israel traced his location and eliminated him.

What did Trump say about the Iranian leaders?

Speaking to the US media, Donald Trump noted that all the leaders were present at the funeral. He remarked that they could all be wiped out in a single shot, but added that they would not do so, as such an action would leave no avenue for future dialogue.

He also expressed surprise at seeing people weeping at Khamenei’s funeral. He stated that he was astonished to see some Iranians crying, as he had believed the Iranian people hated Khamenei, even though he speculated that these might be crocodile tears.

Massive Crowds Gather for Grand Funeral

The mortal remains of Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei have been placed at the Grand Mosalla religious complex in Tehran, allowing Iranians to pay their final respects. Hundreds of thousands of people are flocking to the city for this purpose, with massive crowds gathering both inside and around the Grand Mosque complex.

Iranians can be seen weeping and beating their chests in grief as they view their leader; mourning through weeping is a long-standing tradition in Shia Islam. People are arriving at the funeral carrying black flags, and many have also been chanting slogans of “Death to America.”
