New Delhi: Security forces appear highly active in their efforts to deal a decisive blow to terrorist organisations in Jammu and Kashmir. Working alongside state police, central forces aim to dismantle terror plots in the valley. The joint security forces have achieved another major success in the region.
Yasir, a commander of the Pakistan-backed terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba, was killed in an encounter with joint security forces in the Yusmarg area on Saturday. According to sources, Yasir was previously associated with the prominent Lashkar figure Suleman Musa but had parted ways with the group about a year ago. Security forces had been searching for this terrorist for quite some time; he was known for inciting local youth to take up arms in the name of religion.
Yasir Killed in Encounter
After breaking away from the organisation, Yasir had been operating independently and was fully active as a key Lashkar commander in the Yusmarg area. Security forces had been monitoring his activities for a long period. A confrontation took place between security forces and Yasir in Yusmarg on Saturday, leading to an encounter.
Security forces eliminated Yasir during the operation, and an investigation into his role is now underway. This encounter in Yusmarg is part of the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Security agencies are now investigating Yasir’s network, his links with other Lashkar terrorists, and his involvement in planning or executing recent terror activities.
Another Terrorist Killed Previously
Before this, the Army and security forces had killed a terrorist suspected to be a Pakistani national in an encounter in the Budgam district of central Kashmir. Suspecting the presence of another hidden terrorist, security forces had also launched a search operation in the area. This search operation in Jammu and Kashmir was launched jointly by the state police, the Indian Army, and the CRPF. According to officials, the Army had tracked the movements of a group of suspected terrorists advancing from Ashdar Gali in Poonch, via Yusmarg, towards Pakherpora in Pulwama.
Area Cordoned Off on September 1
Joint security forces had been monitoring the movements of this group as it traversed the high-altitude mountain passes of the Pir Panjal range. The area was completely cordoned off on September 1. Subsequently, on September 3, the security forces made contact with the terrorists at Ashdar Gali. It is worth noting that the Indian Army is continuously conducting operations to eliminate terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir. Whenever information regarding the presence of suspected terrorists is received, a search operation is immediately launched.
