New Delhi: With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, all political parties have already ramped up their activities. Amidst this, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched an attack on opposition parties. He stated that under the previous government, the UP Police appeared helpless before the ‘land mafia ‘, a situation that no longer prevails. Speaking at the ‘TechSangam’ event in Lucknow, he also discussed the utility of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He noted that while AI can be helpful, it should not be allowed to become the ultimate decision-maker. He further mentioned the use of technology to tighten the grip on criminals and the expansion of forensic facilities across the state. During his address, he recounted an incident involving a land mafia operative who had managed to get government land registered in his own name, leaving the police feeling helpless.

Let AI be guided by our own judgment – CM Yogi.
CM Yogi Adityanath shared significant insights regarding AI. He remarked that while AI can prove beneficial, it should not be the final authority; rather, it should remain subject to our own human judgment, not the other way around. He warned that if we become entirely dependent on AI for all our actions, the very same technology could eventually become a source of crisis for us.
He further observed that while discussions on topics like AI and modern technology are taking place in Lucknow today, such an event would have been unimaginable in Uttar Pradesh just a decade ago, a time when the state was left helpless in the face of the land mafia.
CM Yogi recounts an incident.
During the event, CM Yogi Adityanath shared an anecdote. He referred to the specific plot of land where the ‘UP State Institute of Forensic Sciences’ is now established. He explained that this land was once a victim of lawlessness; a land mafia operative had manipulated official documents to have the property registered in his own name.
He mentioned that he was informed about this case by the then-DGP of Uttar Pradesh. He added that the largest civil police force in the world had found itself completely helpless before the land mafia. According to the Chief Minister, he called for the relevant file from the DGP and ordered an investigation into the matter. Subsequently, an FIR was registered. When the accused approached the High Court, a second FIR was also filed.
Reference to the TV series ‘CID’
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath illustrated the power of forensic science by citing the television series ‘CID’. He recalled how, in the past, families would sit together to watch this show, which depicted how investigators, rs by examining a person’s hair or nails, could track down the perpetrator following a death.

He noted that while such investigations were not possible back then, they are now being conducted routinely through modern forensic techniques. With the aid of science and technology, it has become extremely difficult for criminals to evade justice. Citing the case of a mafia figure, he mentioned that the individual’s first crime in Uttar Pradesh dates back to 1980.
In 2017, when his government tightened the net, the individual was moved to Punjab. He explained that it took three years to bring that mafia figure back to UP from Punjab, a process that required the government to take the matter all the way to the Supreme Court. According to the Chief Minister, the individual was finally convicted 42 years later.
