New Delhi: Until three days ago, it seemed that the situation in the Middle East would remain stable, but sudden attacks by the US have disrupted the peace. The US is continuously launching attacks on Iran, resulting in anticipated heavy losses. Iran, too, is retaliating by targeting US forces.
Meanwhile, Israel is also poised to enter this conflict, with Iran as its target. On February 28, 2026, the US and Israel launched simultaneous attacks on Iran. Although the fighting had paused intermittently due to peace proposals, such a pause no longer seems likely. As tensions between the US and Iran escalated, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret meeting. This meeting is being interpreted in various ways; is Israel preparing to jump into the war once again?

Will Israel also attack Iran?
Amidst rising tensions between the US and Iran, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu abruptly cancelled a ceremony and held a secret meeting. The tension between the US and Iran is believed to be the primary reason for cancelling the important ceremony. Netanyahu held an extensive closed-door meeting with security officials.
According to Israeli media, the meeting focused on escalating tensions with Iran, the US-Iran standoff at the Strait of Hormuz, and the situation in Lebanon. U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit to Israel, originally scheduled to coincide with the NATO summit,t was also cancelled. However, Netanyahu described the situation as one where something positive might emerge. Insiders suggest that despite the US-Iran ceasefire, Israel is working seriously on its own strategy.
Multiple threats from Iran to Israel
Regarding nuclear threats and regional security, Israel believes that Iran is attempting to encircle it not only through nuclear capabilities but also via missiles, drones, and proxy groups. Netanyahu’s strategy has never been simply to leave Iran isolated. Regarding the attacks in February, Israel succeeded in damaging several of Iran’s capabilities but did not completely dismantle them.

Israel could re-enter the fray with greater strength
It is worth noting that Israel is preparing to intervene once again in the intense conflict between the US and Iran though, in reality, Israel has already been involved in the war. Israel had previously carried out hundreds of strikes against Iran and its allies; however, “deeper involvement” could now entail large-scale ground or major aerial operations.
When did the conflict begin?
The US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026. Since then, Israel has remained a key participant in the conflict. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, was killed during the strikes carried out by the two nations, a development that further escalated tensions. In response, Iran launched attacks, causing damage to US military bases located across various Middle Eastern countries.
