Indus Water Treaty: After the terrorist attack on 22 April 2025, India has taken concrete steps and suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan.
Indus Water Treaty: 26 people were killed in the Pahalgam attack carried out by terrorists in which people were killed after asking their religion. After this, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several actions against Pakistan in which the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, which has created panic in Pakistan. India has said that it does not want to have any relations with Pakistan.
India demanded strict action against terrorism
After the Pahalgam attack, India has decided to end the Indus Water Treaty. India said that until Pakistan takes strict action against terrorism on the border, this treaty will be stopped. India’s ban on the water of the Indus River has created panic in Pakistan.
Let us tell you that 80 percent of the farming in Pakistan is done with the water of the Indus River and the water of the Indus River is very important for Pakistan, in which the head of the Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto has threatened India and said that – “If India stops the water of the Indus River, either our water will flow in it or their blood will flow”.
There is panic in Pakistan
After cancelling the Indus Water Treaty, India has stopped the water of the Indus River. Since then, there is panic in Pakistan, since India has decided to suspend this treaty, after which the head of the People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari threatened that either there will be water in the Indus or there will be blood of Indians in it, while Pakistan’s minister Hanif Abbasi said that if India stops the water of the Indus River, then we will wage a nuclear war.
India-Pakistan is 93% dependent on the water coming from the Indus River, which supplies its irrigation and power generation, after which a water crisis may arise in Pakistan.
What is Indus Water Treaty
Indus Water Treaty was signed in 1960 by India’s Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan’s former President Ayub Khan, according to which the water of India’s three eastern rivers Ravi, Beas and Sutlej will be given to India while the western rivers Chenab, Jhelum and Indus will be given to Pakistan.
Since then this treaty was in force till now and India has the right to suspend this treaty. But due to Pakistan’s evil intentions, India has taken this tough step and has decided to suspend this treaty and said that till any concrete steps are not taken by Pakistan, this treaty will be kept suspended.
What will be the impact on Pakistan?
By cancelling the Indus Water Treaty and stopping the water of Indus, Pakistan’s economy will be completely shaken, because Pakistan is an agricultural country and its livelihood is mainly agriculture and more than 80% of the water coming from the Indus River in Pakistan is used for irrigation and electricity. Agriculture is the main livelihood there, which contributes 20% to the GDP, apart from this, 40% of the employment there is also from agriculture, so if this water is stopped, then an economic crisis can arise in Pakistan.
