Indira Ekadashi 2025
- Indira Ekadashi will be observed on September 17, 2025.
- In Hindu tradition, this sacred day is believed to free ancestors from the cycle of birth and death.
- Scriptures describe how Lord Krishna explained the significance of this Ekadashi to Dharmaraj Yudhishthira, noting that faithfully observing the fast offers the spiritual merit of performing numerous yajnas.
Because Indira Ekadashi occurs during Pitru Paksha, it is closely associated with family harmony and prosperity.
Women, in particular, are encouraged to follow certain guidelines to maintain peace and well-being in the household.

Practices to Avoid on Indira Ekadashi
Hair Care: Women traditionally avoid washing their hair, cutting it, or taking a head bath on this day.
Sacred Plants: Offering water to the Tulsi plant or plucking leaves from sacred trees such as Tulsi or Peepal is discouraged, as it is thought to invite financial difficulties.
Celibacy: Both husband and wife are advised to observe celibacy, as intimacy is believed to diminish the benefits of the fast and may displease ancestral spirits.

Donations of Leftovers: Giving away leftover food or used oil is considered inauspicious and thought to bring financial loss—even for those who are well-off.
Lending or Borrowing: Avoid borrowing or lending money and refrain from consuming food or water from another household.
Conduct: Anger, laziness, and causing harm—whether physical or emotional—should be avoided. Scriptures warn that such actions displease Goddess Lakshmi.
