New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi is celebrating his 76th birthday today. There is great enthusiasm among party workers regarding the occasion. To mark the day, PM Modi inaugurated ‘Semicon India 2026’ at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. This three-day conference and exhibition, running from September 17 to 19, 2026, is being organised under the theme “Building the Ecosystem.”
The event will bring together global and Indian companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups, academic institutions, and students associated with the semiconductor and electronics value chain. Companies from 52 countries, including India, will participate in the event.
The event is being jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and SEMI, a global industry association representing the semiconductor and electronics design and manufacturing ecosystem.
How many global companies will participate?
More than 600 exhibitors, including approximately 300 international companies, will participate in the event, which features an exhibition area spanning 15,000 square meters. Additionally, over 150 speakers are expected to participate in discussions regarding key developments and challenges within the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
The exhibition will feature pavilions from six countries and twelve state governments. There will also be dedicated platforms for start-ups, innovation, students, workforce development, and women in the semiconductor industry.
Approximately 40 start-ups will showcase their work in the start-up pavilion. The workforce development pavilion will focus on talent, skills, and career opportunities in microelectronics. The event will also include a start-up pitch competition, a student hackathon, and innovation showcases, providing a platform for emerging companies, researchers, and students to present their ideas and technologies.
The exhibition will also host pavilions from six countries: Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Sweden. Additionally, there are 12 state booths, a startup pavilion, an innovation showcase, and pavilions dedicated to students, hackathons, and workforce development.
What is a semiconductor?
To put it simply, a semiconductor acts as a traffic controller for electricity. It is used in a wide range of devices, from mobile phones to cars. Most advanced machines today also utilise chipsets. These are manufactured using silicon; billions of tiny transistors are created on silicon wafers.
