Pakistan’s Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to hold talks with the Pakistani government. This has ended hopes of stopping the ongoing conflict between Imran and the government of Pakistan. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, has refused to engage in talks with Shehbaz Sharif’s government. His decision has further reduced the chances of any reconciliation between the government and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). PTI leader Umar Ayub Khan also ruled out the possibility of restarting negotiations between both sides. The ongoing political tensions between Imran Khan and the Pakistan government continue to escalate. According to a media report on Sunday, there seems to be no sign of dialogue or compromise. This has created further uncertainty in Pakistan’s political landscape, deepening the existing crisis.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI leader Ayub said in the National Assembly on Saturday that “the chapter of talks is now closed.” He emphasized that political dialogue cannot be based only on wishes as it requires strong commitment, which the government has failed to demonstrate. Criticizing the coalition government’s approach, he stated that PTI’s negotiation committee had started discussions with goodwill. However, the government neither showed goodwill nor the willingness to resolve the issues, leading to a deadlock. Ayub stressed that meaningful talks require sincerity from both of the sides, but the government’s lack of seriousness has made this impossible, further deepening the political crisis in Pakistan.

PTI Demands Judicial Commission on Riots of May 9, Talks with Government Stall

PTI leader Ayub’s statement comes at a time when negotiations between PTI and the government have completely broken down. The talks, which began in late December after months of political tension, have now reached a deadlock. PTI has refused to participate in the fourth round of discussions, citing the government’s failure to form a judicial commission to investigate the riots happened on May 9 and the protests of November 2024. The party insists that an independent inquiry is very important for any meaningful and sensible dialogue to take place. PTI leaders argue that the government’s reluctance to conduct a fair investigation raises serious concerns about its intentions. Without accountability for past events, trust between the two sides remains very low. This standoff has further intensified political uncertainty in Pakistan, making it even more difficult to find a peaceful resolution. As both parties refuse to compromise, the political crisis in the country continues to deepen.
