New Delhi: Prominent Samajwadi Party leader and former cabinet minister Azam Khan has been facing a rough patch for quite some time. He is currently lodged in Rampur Jail alongside his son, facing over a hundred registered cases. On Wednesday, senior SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav, uncle of former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, visited Rampur Jail to meet Azam Khan. SP workers accorded a rousing welcome to Shivpal Singh Yadav upon his arrival.

During the visit, he also met Azam Khan’s son, Abdullah Azam, who is also incarcerated. He held discussions with both of them for nearly an hour. Upon leaving the jail, Shivpal Singh Yadav made a significant announcement regarding Azam Khan, stating that if the Samajwadi Party forms the government in Uttar Pradesh, Azam Khan would be given a position akin to that of Home Minister. This major declaration by the SP leader ahead of the elections is seen as highly significant.

Party to appoint Azam Khan as Home Minister

Addressing party workers in Rampur, Shivpal Yadav urged everyone to remain united. He called upon all workers to stand together and ensure the Samajwadi Party’s victory in the 2027 Assembly elections, aiming to form an SP government in UP.

He also called for the defeat of the BJP, emphasising that party workers must prepare for the elections with full vigour. He reiterated that if the Samajwadi Party comes to power, senior leader Azam Khan would be entrusted with a crucial role, such as that of Home Minister. This statement by Shivpal Yadav has sparked intense speculation within political circles.

Shivpal Yadav also visited Azam’s residence.

After meeting Azam Khan in jail, former cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav visited his residence to meet his family members. He met Azam Khan’s wife, Tazeen Fatma, and his elder son, Adeeb. Shivpal Yadav had previously visited Azam Khan when he was imprisoned in the past.

Interacted with students at the university

Shivpal Yadav also visited Jauhar University. He met the students studying there and gathered information regarding the current state of the university. After speaking with the children, he held a press conference.

During this, Shivpal Yadav stated that if any official or employee has acted wrongfully against Jauhar University following the change in government, strict action would be taken against them once the Samajwadi Party forms the government. He further added that the entire Samajwadi Party is united in its efforts to protect Jauhar University.

What did Azam Khan say to Shivpal Yadav?

After meeting Azam Khan, Shivpal Yadav said that he had asked him to travel across the state and work towards forming a Samajwadi Party government. He affirmed that the party stands firmly behind the issue of Jauhar University.

Shivpal Yadav also raised concerns regarding Azam Khan’s condition in jail. He claimed that Azam Khan is facing significant hardships in prison and is being denied several essential amenities. He stated that he would raise his voice regarding these matters.
