Hariyali Teej 2025
Hariyali Teej is a vibrant and spiritually significant festival celebrated mainly in North India, especially in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. Hariyali Teej is being celebrated today with devotion and joy. This day marks the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is especially celebrated by married and unmarried women for marital bliss and prosperity.

Significance of Hariyali Teej
The festival of Hariyali Teej symbolizes devotion, love, and the strength of marital relationships. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Parvati finally united with Lord Shiva after years of penance. Observing fast and performing rituals on this day is said to bring blessings for a happy and prosperous married life. Unmarried girls also observe the fast in the hope of finding a virtuous life partner.
The word “Hariyali” means greenery, which reflects the monsoon season during which this festival occurs. The rains bring fertility and prosperity, symbolizing growth and rejuvenation in both nature and relationships.
Rituals and Customs

Women dress up in green attire, apply henna (mehndi) on their hands, wear traditional jewelry, and sing Teej songs. Married women visit their parental homes and celebrate the day with joy and devotion.
One of the main rituals is the Nirjala Vrat, where women observe a strict fast without food or water throughout the day. The fast is broken only after offering prayers and bhog to Goddess Parvati in the evening.
Swings are hung on trees, and women enjoy singing traditional songs while swinging—an activity symbolic of happiness and feminine grace.
