Flash Flood

New Delhi: Devastating flash floods in the areas of Nepal bordering Tibet have wreaked havoc, leaving everyone shaken. Anxiety prevails as the disaster has claimed 632 lives, with victims buried under debris and over 2,500 people missing. Numerous restaurants, government project sites, and hospital buildings have collapsed.

Alarmingly, the impact of the floods in Nepal is now being felt in India. Bodies are being washed downstream by the Narayani River as far as Maharajganj. Personnel engaged in relief and rescue operations spotted something suspicious in the river; upon closer inspection, they discovered bodies. The administration has recovered four bodies identified as three women and one police officer.

Maharajganj administration informs Nepal.

The discovery of bodies washing down from Nepal caused a stir. The Maharajganj administration recovered the bodies and informed the Nepalese authorities, sharing photographs to assist with identification. They are now awaiting a decision from the Nepalese administration regarding further action. Rescue teams stationed at the river are maintaining a constant vigil. Whenever a suspicious object is spotted, personnel rush to the site to investigate. If a human body is found, it is retrieved and, following necessary procedures, sent to the morgue.

Meanwhile, people are risking their lives to retrieve items washed down by the river. Although rescue teams repeatedly warn them to stay away from the water, many continue to venture close to the riverbank to collect wood and other debris.

Number of bodies recovered from the Narayani River

According to a report, 158 bodies had been recovered from various stretches of the Narayani River in Nepal’s Nawalparasi East district by Friday. Of these, 109 were intact bodies, while 49 cases involved only severed body parts. The bodies recovered from this river in Nepal include 31 women, 51 men, 8 boys, and 11 girls.

Efforts are also underway to identify the remaining recovered remains. Meanwhile, the bodies recovered in Nepal have been placed in various hospitals and secure locations, and attempts to identify them are ongoing. The floods in Nepal have caused widespread devastation, and the waters of the Narayani River are carrying the traces of that destruction all the way to India. In this difficult time, Aaj Tak extends its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

Relief and rescue operations are underway.

Floodwaters that surged down from the mountains are still flowing through many areas. The Nepalese administration is conducting rescue operations to recover bodies. More than 2,500 people remain missing, and debris is being cleared in the search for them; the death toll is also expected to rise.
