New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh politics is currently abuzz due to the Datia assembly election situation. Tensions flared in Datia after the BJP denied a ticket to former state Home Minister Narottam Mishra for the by-election, fielding Ashutosh Tiwari instead. Mishra’s supporters took to the streets in protest, causing significant unrest and resulting in injuries to police personnel.
After two days of high-intensity turmoil in Datia, Narottam Mishra met with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Following this meeting, Mishra’s stance appeared to soften. According to the latest reports, he has now left for Delhi; he took an early morning flight on Sunday. He is expected to meet with the BJP’s new National General Secretary (Organisation), Nitin Naveen, in the capital.

Received an offer to contest from this party
Political temperatures soared the moment Narottam Mishra a figure of considerable influence in Datia was denied the ticket. His supporters blocked the highway, creating a 15-kilometre-long traffic jam and exacerbating the situation. Amidst this, Shiv Sena (UBT) offered him a ticket to contest the election. Furthermore, the party stated that Uddhav Thackeray himself would visit Datia to campaign for him.
Mishra softens his stance after meeting the CM.
Amidst the uncertainty and political tension, Narottam Mishra met Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. He also met with MP BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal and Regional Organisation General Secretary Ajay Jamwal. He has now departed for Delhi.
He is expected to meet BJP leader Nitin Naveen there, with discussions likely to cover the recent events in Datia. Overall, Mishra’s tone has appeared different since he met with CM Mohan Yadav.

After meeting CM Mohan Yadav, Narottam Mishra emphasised that the organisation is paramount. He also announced that he would attend the nomination filing of BJP candidate Ashish Tiwari for the Datia seat. He stated that they had discussed ensuring a victory in Datia. Expressing confidence in the BJP’s win there, he remarked that everything would gradually fall into place and urged his supporters to maintain patience and calm. He added that upon reaching Datia, he would participate in Ashutosh Tiwari’s nomination process for the by-election.
Violence by Protesters
It is worth noting that as soon as the BJP announced its candidate for the Datia by-election, supporters of Narottam Mishra upset over the denial of the ticket took to the streets. They vehemently opposed the party’s choice of candidate and raised slogans, blocking the highway in the process. The highway remained blocked for approximately 10 hours. The protesters refused to yield despite attempts by the police to reason with them. When the police adopted a firm stance, the protesters attacked them with bricks and stones, leaving six police personnel including the Datia Superintendent of Police (SP) injured.
