New Delhi: The Election Commission of India is currently making headlines and facing embarrassment over the issue of SIR (Systematic Deletion of Voters). Serious questions are being raised regarding the SIR process initiated by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition political parties are even demanding that Gyanesh Kumar be jailed. Meanwhile, the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Gyanesh Kumar.
CJP convener Abhijit Deepke stated that Kumar must resign immediately, or else a “Jantar Mantar Part 2” protest would ensue; a movement would be launched against him. The CJP has previously staged a major protest at Jantar Mantar against the NEET exam paper leak, a movement that successfully led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Criminal case should be filed against Gyanesh Kumar: Deepke
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, CJP convener Abhijit Deepke said that a report concerning the Election Commission released yesterday (Wednesday) proves that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is the country’s “biggest traitor.” He demanded Kumar’s immediate resignation. Why is he considered anti-national?
He poses a threat to India’s democracy. What did democracy mean in our country? It meant that the public would elect the government; however, ever since Gyanesh Kumar became Chief Election Commissioner, the government has been deciding who gets to vote and who doesn’t. Is this democracy?
CJP leaders accompany Deepke
CJP leaders Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka accompanied Abhijit Deepke. Both Das and Ranka demanded that criminal proceedings be initiated against Gyanesh Kumar to reveal under whose orders he acted. They also demanded a halt to the SIR process. Additionally, Abhijit Deepke stated that since Gyanesh Kumar assumed office, twenty million (2 crore) votes have been deleted in Maharashtra alone.
More than twenty million votes have also been deleted in Uttar Pradesh. In West Bengal, 9 million votes have been deleted. Meanwhile, in the capital, Delhi, 4.7 million voters are currently being excluded. In Kerala, 2.4 million voters are being excluded; in Tamil Nadu, 9.7 million; in Karnataka, 10 million; and in Telangana, 7.3 million. If we look at these figures, over 130 million votes have been deleted. This is no small number.
Gyanesh Kumar Working for the BJP
Abhijit Deepke stated that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is working for the BJP. He is deleting votes to widen the margin in areas where the gap was a mere 2%, where it appeared the BJP might lose or be ousted from power, thereby ensuring they never lose office.
Why is this being done?
What was the need to delete so many votes? To understand this, we must look back at the 2024 elections. In the 2024 elections, the BJP failed to secure a majority. Deepke said, “They failed to achieve a majority; they were reduced to 240 seats, despite raising the slogan of ‘crossing 400.’ They realised then that the country’s mood was shifting. Regional forces emerged very strongly, be it Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra, the NCP, Stalin, Pinarayi Vijayan, Arvind Kejriwal, or Mamata Banerjee. These were all Chief Ministers, and they have been defeated one by one.”
