New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned to quell the protests led by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), which had taken to the streets against the NEET paper leak. Emboldened by this success, the CJP is now formulating plans for large-scale educational reforms. Following the minister’s resignation, the party has opened a new front in Uttar Pradesh.
The UP government has issued an order to demolish Rampur’s Jauhar University; however, the CJP may now step in to defend it. The party has appealed to the UP government to withdraw the order. If the government fails to reconsider the decision, the CJP could launch a massive state-wide agitation. The party conveyed its stance via X (formerly Twitter); details are provided below.
CJP Issues Warning to UP Government
The Cockroach Janata Party, which previously protested against the NEET paper leak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, has made a significant statement on X. The party noted that, according to reports, more than 20 schools are closing down daily across the country. In this context, demolishing a university in UP would amount to crushing education.
The CJP stated that such a move would be detrimental to the nation. In a stern warning, the party urged the Uttar Pradesh government to reconsider the decision and withdraw the demolition order.
Rampur Administration Has Issued a Notice
The Rampur Development Authority has declared 38 out of the university’s 40 buildings illegal. Labelling the construction of these buildings as unauthorised, the authority has ordered demolition action using bulldozers. According to the Rampur District Magistrate, the institution has been granted a 15-day grace period.
If the illegal structures within the campus are not removed, the Rampur Development Authority will proceed with demolition. The Samajwadi Party has also been consistently opposing this decision by the Rampur administration. SP delegation has already submitted a memorandum.
A Samajwadi Party delegation, led by Mata Prasad Pandey, the Leader of the Opposition in the UP Legislative Assembly, has met the District Magistrate to demand the withdrawal of this order. However, the administration has not yet revoked the order. The SP is also raising this issue at the national level; several party MPs visited the campus to register their protest against the government.
CJP has staged a protest at Jantar Mantar
It is worth noting that the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), formed following remarks by Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant had staged a protest against the NEET paper leak. During this demonstration, the CJP demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation for the students who had died by suicide. The government accepted all these demands, following which the CJP’s agitation came to an end.
