China Open 2025 update: Satwik-Chirag and PV Sindhu enter pre-quarterfinals. HS Prannoy set for a tough Round of 16 clash with Chou Tien-chen.
The China Open Badminton Tournament began with wins for PV Sindhu, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, and Chirag Shetty. The two-time Olympic champion and India’s top-ranked doubles team have advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.
In straight games, Reddy and Shetty defeated Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura of Japan 21-13-21-9.

Tomoka Miyazaki was defeated by PV Sindhu.
In singles, PV Sindhu got off to a fantastic start. She advanced to the pre-quarterfinals by defeating Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan 21-15, 8-21, and 21-17.
Sindhu had previously lost in the Japan Open’s opening round. Sindhu has lost in the first round of five events this year and in the second round of three others.
Chou Tien-chen will play HS Prannoy in the pre-quarterfinals.
In the first round, HS Prannoy defeated Koki Watanabe of Japan 8-21, 21-16, 23-21 to go to the pre-quarterfinals.
Prannoy won the second game 21-16 after making a tremendous comeback after losing the opening 8-21. He was behind 1-7 and then 15-20 in the third and most important game, but he put on a strong show to even the score at 20-20 and win the match and game 23-21.
Lakshya Sen lost in the opening round.
After losing against Li Shifeng, a Chinese player, in the opening round of the tournament, Lakshya Sen was eliminated. Lakshya dropped two straight games, 22-24 and 11-21, after winning the opening match 21-14.

A defeat awaits Anupama Upadhyay.
Anupama Upadhyay of India fell to Lin Hsiang-ti of China in the women’s singles match with scores of 23-21, 11-21, and 10-21. In the first game, Anupama was able to put up a fierce fight, but the Chinese player quickly defeated her in the second and third.
In the first round, a mixed doubles duo was eliminated.
Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh and Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde were eliminated in the first round of the mixed doubles competition.
