Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s Gujarat tour was overshadowed by his arrival in Ahmedabad for an event. Upon his exit, he faced protests. Kumar was attending an event organized by the Ahmedabad Management Association. As he was leaving, two young men protested by waving black flags at him and shouting slogans demanding his resignation. Police immediately detained both protesters.
According to reports, Gyanesh Kumar is currently on a tour of Gujarat. The purpose of his visit is to review issues related to the electoral process and voter lists and to engage with various groups. He attended a Management Association event in Ahmedabad as part of his program. As soon as his program concluded, two young men suddenly began protesting, waving black flags and shouting slogans. Security personnel immediately separated the two young men, detained them, and began questioning them. The police are investigating the matter further.
Gyanesh Kumar’s Protest Regarding the SIR
The protesters cited the primary reason for their protest against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) as the SIR process. They demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and an investigation. One of the detained young men identified himself as associated with the student organization NSUI, while the other identified himself as a social activist. Police have begun questioning both protesting young men and are investigating further.
CEC Attending Several Programs in Gujarat
Gyanesh Kumar is currently on a tour of Gujarat and is participating in several important meetings and interactive programs. During his visit, he is interacting with booth-level officials, as well as with educational institutions and students. Understanding ground-level issues related to the electoral system is also part of his program.
Upon arriving in Gujarat, the Chief Election Commissioner also visited the Sabarmati Ashram, where he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He described Gujarat as a land associated with Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and expressed his delight at visiting the state.
