New Delhi: If you are planning to fly with Air India, there are some important details you should know. Air India had previously announced a reduction in its flight services, but a major change is set to take place starting September 1st; the airline is reinstating the services that were previously cut back. Air India is set to resume most of the domestic and international flights that were reduced during July and August.

This means it will be easier to secure tickets for winter travel. Travellers planning trips after September may find more options available compared to the recent past, as Air India increases the frequency of both domestic and international flights.

Routes with increased flight frequency

According to Air India, the number of flights to Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, Melbourne, Tokyo, and New York will increase. This offers travellers heading to these cities more flexibility to choose flights that suit their convenience. Therefore, it is advisable to check the new schedule before booking your tickets; doing so will clear up any confusion.

Why were flights reduced?

Fuel prices had been steadily rising over the past few months, causing financial strain for airline companies. In response to these rising costs, Air India had reduced its flight operations. In May, the airline decided to cut back on several international flights scheduled between June and August.

During this period, global flight operations saw a decline of approximately 2 per cent. The airline reduced flight frequencies on specific routes and temporarily suspended some services entirely. Affected routes included New Delhi-Chicago, Delhi-New York, Mumbai-New York, Delhi-Shanghai, Chennai-Singapore, Mumbai-Dhaka, and Delhi-Male.

The airline had also stated that the high cost of fuel was impacting its operations. The company had also stated that the number of flights would increase again once the situation improved.

Benefits for Passengers

Significantly, Air India had offered passengers affected by the flight reductions options to switch to other flights, change travel dates without incurring high extra costs, or receive a full refund if necessary. Now, with most of the curtailed flights resuming from September 1, passengers are likely to have a wider range of flight options than before.

Travellers on international routes, in particular, stand to benefit the most from this. It is advisable to check Air India’s new schedule based on your preferred dates and routes before booking tickets. This move by Air India is considered highly significant for passenger convenience. There is now a greater likelihood of tickets getting confirmed quickly rather than remaining on the waiting list.
