Attack on Abhishek Banerjee’s House, TMC MP Blames BJP

New Delhi: Ever since the Trinamool Congress faced defeat at the hands of the BJP in the West Bengal Assembly elections, former CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew has been grappling with both legal troubles and public opposition. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee has made a significant claim after posting CCTV footage on the social media platform X.

The CCTV footage shows an individual hurling a stone at his residence. Banerjee lashed out at the Suvendu-led administration (referring to the BJP’s influence) regarding this attack, stating that violence has become commonplace in Bengal. He held the state government responsible for this situation.

Abhishek Banerjee Makes Serious Allegations

TMC leader and former CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, levelled serious allegations in a post on X. He stated that violence has become a routine affair in the state and that criminals are being shielded.

Banerjee claimed that on Tuesday morning, a man arriving on a motorcycle threw a stone at a first-floor window of his family home, causing the glass panes to crack.

Questions Raised About the Police

TMC leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee also raised serious questions regarding the West Bengal Police. He asked where the police were when the incident occurred and at whose behest the accused carried out the attack. He remarked that perpetrators of crime here feel assured of political protection. Demanding effective action against such acts of violence, he questioned the role of the administration.

Targeting the BJP

In his post, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee sharply criticised the BJP, stating that violence and hooliganism are being encouraged in Bengal. He alleged that the government’s policies have emboldened criminals.

Abhishek Banerjee was attacked in Sonarpur.

Violence erupted in Sonarpur, located in the South 24 Parganas district, following the state assembly elections. Abhishek Banerjee was on his way to meet the victims of the violence when a mob targeted and attacked him. Individuals within the crowd threw eggs and stones at him and engaged in a scuffle. State police personnel managed to extract him from the mob after putting a helmet on him. The state government took significant action regarding this incident; the police arrested five individuals based on video footage. This was the first instance of an attack on Abhishek Banerjee.
