New national guidelines promise universal screening, district-level diagnosis, and free insulin support for every child under the public healthcare system

The Ministry of Health has released new guidelines to improve the care and the treatment of children who are suffering from diabetes across all the country. This new framework aims to help to diagnose and make the treatment easier and faster and most important affordable for the families, especially who depends on the government health system.

One of the most important highlight of these guidelines is universal screening. That means children will be regularly checked for the early symptoms of diabetes at school, community health center, and hospital, and various public places. Early detection is very crucial because it helps to manage the disease before it becomes too serious.

The Indian government has also focusing on improving the diagnosis at the district level, so many families do not have to travel to the bigger cities for the proper testing and treatment. Under this new plan, district hospitals will be equipped with the better facilities and the trained staff to diagnose diabetes in children. This step is expected to save the time and the value for the families.

The another main show, big feature of this framework is free lifetime treatment under the public healthcare system. Children who diagnosed with the diabetes will receive essential medicines like insulin at no cost. Insulin is a life-saving drug, it helps control blood sugar levels. Along with insulin, children will also get to access to the regular blood sugar monitoring, treatments, and follow-up with the care without any kind of financial burdens on their family.

This guideline also includes the training program for doctors, nurses, and the other workers who help in hospitals. These programs will help them to understand how they will manage the childhood diabetes more effectively and provide a better treatment to the patient and better support their families. Awareness campaign will also be conducted to educate and teach parents and teachers about the symptoms of diabetes, such as frequent thirst, weight loss, and tiredness.

In addition, this campaign encourages the use of digital tools to keep the track of patient’s health record, and this will also help doctors to monitor the condition of children who are more closely to provide a treatment when needed. Experts believe that this initiative will bring the major improvement in the lives of children living with diabetes by ensuring the early detection, free treatment, and better healthcare facilities at local level. The government aim to reduce complication and improve the overall quality of life for these children, and the overall new guidelines are the big step towards making healthcare more inclusive and accessible for every children in this country.
