Chaitra Navratri 2026: 9 forms of Mother Goddess and their worship and stories during Navratri: Many fasts and festivals are celebrated with great pomp and show in Hinduism, among which Chaitra Navratri holds special significance. This festival is not only a celebration of devotion and power, but also marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year, Vikram Samvat 2083. According to the Hindu calendar, this year’s Chaitra Navratri began on the Pratipada date of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, March 19th, and will conclude with Ram Navami on March 27th, 2026.

It is said that worshipping these nine forms of the Goddess with a true heart during these nine days eliminates all suffering, brings happiness, prosperity, and wealth, and removes negative energy from the home and instills positivity.
Nine forms of Maa Durga

In Chaitra Navratri 2026, all the nine forms of Maa Durga are worshipped for 9 days, in which all the nine forms of Maa Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddha Ratri are worshipped and different types of offerings are made to Maa every day.
Navratri Puja Vidhi

Chaitra Navratri 2026 requires special rules and restraint while performing puja. First of all, Ghatasthapana is done on the first day in which all the deities are invoked by installing the Kalash in the auspicious time. After this, the Akhand Jyoti is lit so that positive energy keeps flowing in the house. After this, the worship of the Mother Goddess and the story is narrated and the Mother Goddess is offered her favorite things.
During the worship of different forms, different offerings are made to the Mother Goddess. After this, Kanya Bhoj is organized on the Ashtami or Navami date and small girls are worshipped considering them as the form of the Goddess and they are fed and given their favorite things so that the Mother Goddess blesses them and their life remains healthy and happy.

Chaitra Navratri 2026 began on March 19th. Many stories of Chaitra Navratri are popular. Let’s learn about the main stories of this festival. –
1.Mahishasura Vadh Katha – The most popular story among the stories of Chaitra Navratri is the story of Mahishasura Vadh. According to this story, in ancient times, there was a very powerful demon named Mahishasura. He performed severe penance to please Lord Brahma and received a boon from him that no god or demon would be able to kill him. After receiving the boon from Lord Brahma, Mahishasura became extremely powerful and, intoxicated with power, attacked the gods in heaven and drove them out. After this, all the gods went to Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh and prayed to them to kill Mahishasura.
Then the Trinity said that no god or demon would be able to kill him. Therefore, with the radiance and power of the three gods, Goddess Durga appeared. After this, Goddess Durga and Mahishasura fought for nine days. And on the tenth day, the Mother killed Mahishasura, Chaitra Navratri is celebrated as the victory of Shakti during these days.
2.Story of Lord Shri Ram – According to another belief, when Ravana and Lord Shri Ram were fighting, Lord Shri Ram worshipped Goddess Shakti to win over Lanka, he performed rigorous worship of the Goddess for nine days of Chaitra Navratri and received the blessings of victory from the Mother, after this, Ravana was killed on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri, which came to be celebrated as Ram Navami.
