Parliament Monsoon Session

on the fifteenth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The opposition persisted in calling for a debate on Bihar SIR during demonstrations outside Parliament and within the Lok Sabha.

After starting at 11 a.m., the Lok Sabha session ended at 11:22 a.m. Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House until 12 p.m. due to the clamor from the opposition.

The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025, which aims to facilitate cargo transit along the Indian coastline, was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday in spite of concerns from the opposition. On April 3, the Lok Sabha approved this bill.

The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, were not sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in the Lok Sabha. Referral of both legislation to the JPC was urged by the opposition.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress and an opposition leader, wrote to Harivansh Narayan Singh, the deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, asking for a discussion on the Bihar SIR.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, however, claimed that Lok Sabha regulations forbid talking about cases that are still ongoing in court.

Opposition MPs caused a stir over the Bihar voter verification problem as the Lok Sabha met at 11 AM. With posters in hand, members of Congress and other opposition parties rushed into the House Well. Speaker Om Birla protested the disturbance, saying that placards are ineffective in the House. “This is not in accordance with your principles,” he said, reprimanding Congress MPs.

“Trump has claimed at least 25 times that he arranged a truce between India and Pakistan,” Rahul Gandhi remarked following his participation in Wednesday’s monsoon session of Parliament. To do that, who is he? It’s not his responsibility. However, the Indian Prime Minister has said nothing at all. He has never once disputed Trump’s assertions. How is the Prime Minister going to respond? How would he defend Trump’s deal-making with Pakistan?
