On Tuesday afternoon, a cloudburst hit the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, causing flash floods and a mudslide in Dharali village.

The Himalayan states have seen extensive destruction as a result of the monsoon rains. A cloudburst in Tangling, Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh) on Wednesday created circumstances akin to flooding, and horrifying images showed huge boulders and other debris streaming onto roadways from mountain slopes.

Authorities were forced to suspend the pilgrimage after the event seriously damaged the path leading to the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra. Teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) used ropes to rescue more than 400 trapped pilgrims.

A cloudburst on Tuesday wreaked damage on Dharali hamlet in neighboring Uttarakhand. More than 50 people are still unaccounted for, and four people were slain.

A landslide in Karnaprayag has blocked the Badrinath National Highway. After a big boulder fell over the tracks, rail service was also halted on the Haridwar-Dehradun route.

In response to the flash floods in Uttarkashi, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who was visiting Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, returned to Dehradun and met with top officials at the State Emergency Operation Centre here to assess the situation, according to PTI.

Eleven Indian Army soldiers were reported missing from a camp in the Harsil area of Uttarkashi district after a cloudburst caused deadly flash floods.

Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister, inspected the Uttarkashi disaster area from the air. Along with senior administrative authorities and army leaders, he also conducted a review of relief and rescue activities. Chief Minister Dhami gave the order to speed up relief work.

“Medical and rescue camps have been set up in the region, and sufficient plans for food and other necessities are being made for the impacted population. Roads are being cleared, cell service is being restored, and meals and necessary medications are being supplied. These efforts are moving quickly forward. In a post on X, he stated that Indian Air Force MI-17 and Chinook helicopters were ready to be sent as soon as necessary.
