So, if no one in your family likes to eat bottle gourd, then you should definitely make a Lauki Cheela and feed it to everyone. This Lauki Cheela is slightly crispy on the outside and very soft on the inside, which gives a unique taste as soon as it enters your mouth. Once you make it and serve it to people, they will beg you to make it again and again.

So, without further ado, let’s find out how it’s made and what ingredients are required.

Ingredients for Gourd Cheela

  • Bottle gourd
  • Wheat flour
  • Gram flour
  • Rice flour
  • Finely chopped onion
  • Finely chopped green chilies
  • Grated ginger
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Cumin seeds
  • Celery seeds
  • Turmeric powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Coriander powder
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil or ghee

Easy Complete Method

First, take a fresh and tender gourd, wash it thoroughly, and peel it. Next, grate it. Place the grated gourd in a large bowl. If the gourd contains too much water, squeeze it out. Once all the water has been drained, add finely chopped onion, green chilies, ginger, and coriander leaves. Mix them all thoroughly.

Now, add half a cup of gram flour, half a cup of wheat flour, and two tablespoons of rice flour to this mixture. Mix them all well. Then, add cumin seeds, carom seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, all the basic spices, and salt to taste.

Once everything is mixed, you need to prepare the batter. For this, add water little by little to make a batter. Make sure the batter isn’t too thin, or your chilla won’t form. You want to keep it thick so it spreads evenly on the pan.

Once your batter is ready, cover it and let it sit for 5 to 7 minutes.

Next, turn on the gas stove and place a nonstick or iron pan on it. Keep the flame low. Once the pan is hot, grease it with a little oil.

Now it’s time to pour the batter onto the pan and fry it, forming the cheela. Pour a tablespoon or ladle of the prepared bottle gourd batter into the center of the pan and spread it slowly in a circular motion to form a large round shape.

Now, pour a little oil or ghee on the edges and top to coat both sides. Let it cook over medium heat for about 2 to 3 minutes. When the bottom of the cheela turns golden, fry the other side and continue frying until both sides are slightly crisp.

Similarly, prepare cheelas one by one from the remaining batter. Keep preparing it and serving it on a plate.

You can eat bottle gourd cheela with green coriander-mint chutney, tomato chutney, or yogurt or tomato sauce. This is a simple and quick breakfast.
