New Delhi: The festival of Karwa Chauth will be celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country on October 29. Married women will observe a fast, praying for the long life, happiness, and well-being of their husbands; the markets are already buzzing with activity in anticipation of the occasion. Meanwhile, many are wondering whether banks will remain closed for the festival, especially since some offices are scheduled to be shut on Thursday.
If you have any pending bank-related tasks, it is advisable to check the holiday schedule. You wouldn’t want to make an unnecessary trip only to find that the bank in your city is closed. You can consult the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday list to avoid any inconvenience and clear up any confusion.

Where will banks be closed on Karwa Chauth?
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s list, banks will remain closed on October 29, the day of Karwa Chauth,h only in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. This means that bank branches in Shimla will not be operating as usual for customers. In contrast, banks in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and other cities across the country will remain open.
When else will banks be closed this month?
Following the holiday in Shimla on October 29, the next bank holiday will be on October 31 (Saturday) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti. Subsequently, a series of bank holidays will begin, starting with the weekly holiday on November 1.
Online services will remain available during holidays
Even if your local bank branch is closed, many routine banking tasks can still be performed online. UPI payments remain functional on holidays; you can continue to send money using apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and other UPI-enabled platforms. Additionally, you can still withdraw cash from ATMs.

What should you do before heading to the bank?
If you need to deposit a cheque, update your passbook, or carry out any cash-related transactions, it is best to complete these tasks before the holiday. Karwa Chauth is not a bank holiday across the entire country, so be sure to check the situation in your own city.
