New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has announced a major tribute to PM Narendra Modi. Noida’s Jewar Airport will now be named ‘Narendra Modi International Airport.’ The Uttar Pradesh government has made this announcement following a decision by the state cabinet, which was announced by CM Yogi Adityanath.
CM Yogi Adityanath stated that, with the effective cooperation of the ‘double-engine’ government, Uttar Pradesh is advancing on a path of unprecedented progress. He noted that prior to 2017, the state struggled with administrative lethargy, a sense of insecurity among the public, and a lack of basic amenities. Drawing inspiration from the PM’s vast administrative experience and visionary leadership, UP has adopted a new work culture in governance.

He stated that under PM Narendra Modi’s guidance, Uttar Pradesh is setting new benchmarks for all-round progress with renewed self-confidence. CM Yogi Adityanath reiterated that under PM Modi’s guidance, UP is achieving new milestones in comprehensive development with fresh confidence. The state cabinet appreciates the PM’s continued focus on the state’s growth.
What makes Jewar Airport unique?
Jewar Airport is highly significant. Flight operations are scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026. The first phase was inaugurated on March 28, 2026, comprising one runway and one passenger terminal. It has an annual capacity of 12 million (1.2 crore) passengers, with plans to increase this to 30 million (3 crore) in the future.
The airport’s runway measures 3,900 meters in length and 45 meters in width. The terminal spans approximately 101,590 square meters and features 28 apron stands. Additionally, the airport is being developed and operated on a PPP model by Zurich Airport International. A 40-year concession agreement was signed on October 7, 2020. The foundation stone for the airport was laid on November 25, 2021. Currently, the primary route to reach the site is the Yamuna Expressway.

Alternatively, one can also reach the location by road via NH-44 and NH-34. Furthermore, the airport operator has entered into agreements with the transport corporations of Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to provide bus services. There are also plans to construct Metro and Namo Bharat stations here in the future. In March 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the revised cost for a 31.42-kilometre-long corridor connecting the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway spur to the airport.
