New Delhi: Serious allegations against a party leader ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are viewed as a significant development. Amidst this, a local woman in Ballia, UP, has accused the district BJP president, Sanjay Mishra, of rape, sparking a stir in the state’s political circles. The woman is also a local BJP leader. She alleged that her private photos and videos were circulated on WhatsApp.

She stated that when she lodged a complaint at the police station, the police omitted the name of District President Sanjay Mishra. Subsequently, she levelled serious allegations in a petition filed in court on September 28, 2026. Jay Shankar Mishra, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Bansdih, told PTI on Saturday that the affidavit had been received and the matter was being investigated.

Action to be taken based on findings

The DSP stated that an investigation is underway. Necessary legal action will be taken based on the evidence gathered and the facts of the case. The DSP dismissed the woman’s allegation that the complaint had been altered. According to the police, the woman had registered a case based on her complaint at the Bansdih police station on September 15, 2026.

According to the police, the case was registered under the IT Act against local BJP office-bearers Alok Singh, Ganesh Gupta, and Ajit Mishra. The woman alleged that these individuals circulated her private video on WhatsApp, thereby tarnishing her privacy, dignity, and social reputation.

Questions raised regarding the police’s role

In the affidavit filed in court, the woman stated that the police did not record her statement; therefore, she was submitting her written statement to the court to ensure it was included in the investigation. She alleged that Alok Singh enjoys the patronage of Sanjay Mishra. The woman claimed that both Alok Singh and Sanjay Mishra had raped her on multiple occasions.

She further alleged that the initial complaint she had lodged with the Bansdih police did include the name of the BJP district president. The woman stated that she was coerced into filing a second complaint. Subsequently, Sanjay Mishra’s name was removed from the FIR, and the case was registered under less serious charges.

The woman alleged that she is being harassed and receiving death threats. She mentioned that she had even contemplated suicide before deciding to pursue the matter further.

What did Sanjay Mishra say?

BJP District President Sanjay Mishra dismissed the woman’s allegations as baseless. He termed it a conspiracy to tarnish his image, claiming that the woman had been instigated to make these accusations. He stated that the truth would be revealed during the investigation and affirmed that he was prepared to face any punishment if found guilty of wrongdoing.
