India Gold Medal

New Delhi: India has scripted history at the Asian Games, sparking excitement everywhere. The women’s recurve archery team has secured a gold medal for the country, defeating South Korea 5-3. Indian team members Kirtim, Kumkum, and Ankita achieved this victory by performing brilliantly amidst challenging conditions. This marks the first time in the 75-year history of the Asian Games that an Indian women’s recurve team has won a gold medal. This is fantastic news for Indian fans.

A Close Contest from the Start

The match was a tight contest right from the beginning. Conditions were far from ideal for the Indian team, making it difficult for players from both sides to hit the ‘perfect 10’. Across a total of 48 shots taken by both teams, players managed to score a 10 only 12 times.

Due to the difficult conditions, scores of 7 and 8 were also recorded by both sides. In the first set, India and South Korea were tied at 54-54. The second set also ended in a tie, with both teams scoring 56. However, India signalled its intent by establishing a strong lead in the third set.

India won the third set 55-51, securing two crucial points. By this stage, India had established a 4-2 lead. In the final set, the Indian team needed at least a draw. All hopes rested on Kumkum, as India could not afford anything less than a 10 on the final shot; had Kumkum failed to hit a 10, the match would have ended in a tie, forcing a shoot-off to decide the winner. India Defeats Champions South Korea

India’s women’s archery team defeated South Korea. The Korean team has long reigned supreme in the sport, having secured 94 medals to date; notably, they are 10-time Olympic champions and former world champions in women’s recurve archery, having dominated the Asian Championships and Asian Games for years. Amidst this backdrop, India’s Kirti, Kumkum, and Ankita made history by clinching the gold medal.

Which Gold Medal Did India Win in Archery?

It is worth noting that this marks India’s fourth gold medal in archery at the 2026 Asian Games. Before this achievement, India had already secured gold medals in the women’s team compound, mixed team compound, and men’s team compound events. With this win, India’s total medal tally has reached 67. Great excitement is visible on the faces of Indian fans following this victory. India’s performance has been excellent.
