Former Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni recently arrived in Bengaluru, where he attended a healthcare event. During the event, when asked about his future in the IPL, he stated clearly that he would first need to undergo medical check-ups. A decision regarding his participation in the next season can only be made once those reports are available.
He will not be making any decisions before that. Dhoni stated, “I need to undergo some medical check-ups first; the doctors will provide me with a report, and before December, I will have to decide whether or not I am in a position to play for another season.”
Who will be the CSK coach for the next season?
Ahead of the upcoming IPL season, former fiery fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings. According to reports, Dhoni is believed to have played a significant role in Zaheer Khan’s appointment. Furthermore, even if MS Dhoni does not play in the next season, he could still make a substantial contribution to CSK in the capacity of a strategist.
Dhoni’s decision hinges on the doctors’ report
Former CSK captain MS Dhoni remarked that everything now depends on the medical report. He noted that the doctors will need to ensure that everything is in order,r essentially checking that an “old vehicle” like him is still fit to run on the road. Therefore, the onus is on the doctors.
The situation could become clear by November 15
It is worth noting that for the 2027 Indian Premier League, all teams are required to submit their lists of released and retained players by November 15, 2026. If CSK includes MS Dhoni in their retention list, the possibility of him playing remains.
Conversely, if he is released, MS Dhoni might announce his retirement from the league. However, according to Dhoni, the prospect of him playing in the next season has not been entirely ruled out.
