New Delhi: Amidst the buzz surrounding the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Rajya Sabha elections are also shaping up to be a fierce contest between the BJP and the SP. Elections for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in UP are scheduled for October 16. A tough battle between the BJP and the SP is expected; the contest has become intriguing with the BJP purchasing eight nomination papers and the SP buying three.

Meanwhile, SP National President Akhilesh Yadav has made a significant claim that is bound to increase anxiety within the BJP. Akhilesh Yadav stated that he would announce a third Rajya Sabha candidate only once the arithmetic works out in his favour. The SP chief claimed that several individuals who had previously left the party are now considering a return; there are quite a few such MLAs.

Will the SP field a third candidate?

When asked when he would announce the third Rajya Sabha candidate, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav replied that the announcement would be made once the vote count is finalised. Rallying votes and bringing MLAs on board is a lengthy process. He noted that many who had previously left the party are now keen to return.

Anyone wishing to defeat the BJP is welcome.e

The BJP is planning to field nine candidates for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Responding to this, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav remarked that if the BJP has the numbers, they should go ahead and field candidates for all 10 seats, not just nine. Alluding to the 299 MLAs, Akhilesh Yadav stated that anyone wishing to join the effort to defeat the BJP is welcome to do so. Predicting the BJP’s defeat, Akhilesh Yadav remarked, “Even if they manage things with a microscope, they will still lose.

What did Akhilesh say when asked about becoming Prime Minister?

When a senior journalist asked Akhilesh Yadav about this, the SP chief laughed. He complimented the journalist in a lighthearted manner and stated that he does not wish to become the Prime Minister. Akhilesh Yadav said, “Keep me confined to UP; do not let me go beyond that.” He then made another significant statement: “Any era marked by atrocities against the PDA will be an era of ‘Emergency’.” It is worth noting that, according to Akhilesh Yadav, ‘PDA’ stands for Pichhda (Backward classes), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (Minorities).
