New Delhi: Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been strained for some time. Amidst this, the Pakistan Air Force has conducted airstrikes targeting the eastern region of Afghanistan. Reports indicate that several people have been injured in these strikes. Pakistani aircraft attacked Kunar province, sparking chaos and panic.
Reports reveal that the attack took place at night while residents were inside their homes. The Pakistani military’s action has instilled fear among the people living in eastern Afghanistan, and tensions between the two nations have once again escalated at the border.
Chaos Following the Airstrikes
The Pakistan Air Force attack created a chaotic situation. According to reports, Pakistani jets struck Paktika in eastern Afghanistan in addition to Kunar. Pakistani aircraft, flying at low altitude, reportedly dropped bombs on the Patang area of Nurgal district in Kunar province around 3:30 AM. Families in the affected areas are gripped by fear following the attack.
However, the extent of the damage caused by the Pakistani attack has not yet been assessed. Reports mention an attack on the home of Noor Mohammad; it is alleged that the Pakistani military targeted his residence in Nurgal district.
The house was reduced to rubble by the attack, and there are reports of casualties. Locals were seen collecting bomb remnants at the scene. The targeted property has been identified as a civilian home.
Damage Not Yet Confirmed
Reports indicate that Pakistani military forces dropped bombs on Noor Mohammad’s house, destroying the structure. According to locals, remnants of the bombs were found amidst the debris after the attack.
Information regarding how many people were inside the house at the time has not yet been made public. This airstrike in Kunar has occurred at a time when tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain high. Reports indicate that this is the latest action carried out by Pakistani aircraft.
When did tensions escalate?
There have been persistent reports of rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Last Friday, another attack took place in Kohat, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Twenty-one people, including 15 police personnel, lost their lives in this major suicide attack. This attack on a mosque has once again heightened friction between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Following the attack, indications emerged from Pakistan that the TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) could be targeted within Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Afghan Taliban had also warned Pakistan last week that any action taken inside Afghanistan would be met with a strong response. Recently, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that if Pakistan carries out attacks within the country, Afghanistan will defend its sovereignty.
