New Delhi: All is not well within the NDA ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. For the past few days, the chief of the Nishad Party has been signalling a growing distance from the BJP. At times, he meets with Mata Prasad Pandey,y the Leader of the Opposition in the UP Assembly, ly while at other times, he speaks of considering alternative options, suggesting that the doors to the BJP might be closing.
The matter does not end there; he has now raised questions regarding the Central Government’s move to increase charges on UPI payments exceeding ₹2,000. Furthermore, Sanjay Nishad, a cabinet minister in the UP government, has questioned the Centre’s decision. The Yogi government minister remarked that while there are global issues related to inflation and other factors, he believes such charges should not be increased.
Sanjay Nishad Questions the Centre’s Decision
Sanjay Nishad, a minister in UP’s Yogi government, stated that democracy exists in the world, and the essence of democracy is to alleviate burdens. It involves providing facilities and ensuring people face no hardships; indeed, democracy is the remedy for difficulties. Sanjay Nishad has been a subject of much discussion recently; he has previously questioned the government regarding the failure to secure due rights for the Nishad community.
What are the Key Details of the New UPI Rules?
Effective October 15, the Central Government has implemented a charge of up to 0per centtent on UPI payments to merchants exceeding ₹2,000. No Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will be levied on UPI transactions up to ₹2,000. However, for customer-to-merchant transactions exceeding ₹2,000, an MDR of per cent will apply; for instance, on a purchase of ₹3,000, the merchant would have to pay a fee of per cent (amounting to ₹12) to the acquiring bank.
Additionally, this commission will be shared among stakeholders across the entire payment ecosystem, including banks. No charges will be levied on person-to-person (P2P) transactions, regardless of the transaction value. For high-value payments of ₹75,000 and above, the MDR will be capped at a maximum of ₹300 per transaction.
Nishad has opposed the government on certain issues
It is worth noting that Sanjay Nishad has been vocal against the central government regarding certain issues. Lately, Nishad, who’s been associated with the ruling side, has been attending protests directed against the government itself. Two days ago, he made a surprise visit to the residence of Mata Prasad, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly (representing the SP). Subsequently, speaking to various news channels, he stated that he had joined the BJP only after the SP had closed its doors to him; he added that if the BJP were to close its doors as well, he would consider his next move.
