New Delhi: Monsoon clouds continue to hover over most parts of the country, causing adverse conditions due to heavy rainfall. The havoc caused by heavy rains is evident not only in North India but also in the Northeastern and Southern states. The downpour has brought life to a standstill, exacerbating the situation. Heavy rain is lashing the national capital, New Delhi, as well as parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan.
Persistent rainfall has led to waterlogging, disrupting traffic. There appears to be little chance of immediate relief from the monsoon rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast torrential rain across 15 states and has urged people to exercise caution due to the risk of lightning strikes.
Forecast of Heavy Rain in 15 States
According to the Meteorological Department, an alert for severe rainfall has been issued for 15 states. Conditions are ripe for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir. Rain alerts have also been issued for Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Punjab, where wind speeds could reach up to 65 km/h.
Weather Outlook for Delhi
The weather in the plains of Delhi is set to deteriorate again. While the weather is expected to remain clear on September 10, 2026, a shift towards adverse conditions is anticipated starting September 11, 2026. Skies will remain cloudy today, though rainfall is unlikely.
Heavy rainfall is predicted for the two days following Saturday, September 12, 2026. The weather may clear up again on September 14, 2026, before torrential rain is expected to return the following day, September 15, 2026. Delhi is expected to record a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius.
Heavy Rain Expected in UP
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in several districts of Uttar Pradesh. Rain is likely in Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Fursatganj, and Lakhimpur Kheri. Stormy weather accompanied by lightning and rain is predicted for Prayagraj, Kanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Jaunpur.
The IMD has forecast wind speeds of up to 65 km/h during the rainfall. Cloudy skies are expected in the capital, Lucknow, today, September 10, 2026.
Weather in Bihar
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in Gopalganj, Siwan, Sheohar, East Champaran, Katihar, and Patna. Additionally, an alert has been issued for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Bhojpur, Buxar, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, and Munger.
A rain alert has also been issued for Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur for today, September 10. Stormy winds reaching speeds of 50 km/h may prevail in these areas, and lightning is also expected.
