New Delhi: Monsoon rains have been continuing across various parts of the country since morning, causing waterlogging on roads and disrupting traffic. Rainfall has been occurring in different parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar since the morning of September 1st, providing residents with relief from humid, sultry weather. Cloudy conditions persist in the national capital, Delhi, and its surrounding areas.
Rainfall in hilly regions has caused river water levels to surge, raising the threat of floods in several places. Heavy downpours continue to batter the northeastern states, creating difficulties for commuters. Landslides triggered by rain in the mountains have brought vehicular movement to a complete halt. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 17 states across the country; the rain may be accompanied by winds reaching speeds of up to 65 km/h.
Anticipation of Heavy Rain in Hilly Regions
Heavy rainfall is being witnessed in both the plains and the mountains. Continuous rain increases the risk of landslides in hilly areas and is likely to cause a rapid rise in river water levels. The influence of cyclonic winds persists over Assam in the Northeast.
Intense rainfall is expected in the Western Himalayan regions. Weather conditions may shift significantly due to a low-pressure area forming over West Bengal, northern Odisha, and the Bay of Bengal.
Rainfall Warnings for Several States
According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is predicted for 17 states today, September 1st. The department has forecast rain across several parts of Eastern India, with gusty winds likely in many areas.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam, Sikkim, and Kerala.

According to the IMD, inclement weather is expected in several parts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain accompanied by strong winds in various areas of Delhi during the evening.
Meanwhile, the daytime temperature is likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature is expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are also likely to affect several districts in Uttar Pradesh. Wind speeds of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour are anticipated in many locations.
